Well, the editor session that pops up during a commit can be avoided
with the -m "text" switch added to the commit command... I use for
notes based on the change(s) from earlier CVS versions of the same
package. You can use this to differeniate between net-snmp v4.2.4, 
4.2.5, and 5.0.1 (not to mention any other notables you would like
to add). As I am working on doing, if you would like certain versions
of the same CVS file(s) presented in a clear and special manner, simply
link them from a web page that presents this information.

Joe-User is usually looking for an exact package in CVS rather than
aimlessly attempting to find something random. I think most major
software groups use CVS from linked web pages as well.

I think you are doing the smartest thing by planning you tree. A good
plan will save tons of time and effort at a later date by foreseeable
circumstances.
