I've a certain sympathy for what Rob says, and by extension for Ridsdale who after all was only doing what we all wanted him to do at the time. But when alls said and done, the bloke was a (is a?) poor manager who didn't do very well in almost all aspects of management (financial & man-management anyone?). You could argue that though he might have excelled in strategic thinking (??) his tactical ineptitude (??) made that irrelevant.
