Does anyone else think that the real scandal in the cricket world is the sanctimonious way these Pakistan players have been hung out to dry?
a) I don't see that they did that much wrong. Who were the victims of this terrible crime? A load of parasitical bookies who are reeling in the cash by exploiting sad people with gambling addictions. Mohamed Amir, especially, had in my book earned the right to give away two runs to the opposition after taking 4 wickets in 8 balls. You can hardly say that he was throwing the match or anything! The only thing that really irks me about it is that, as a lover of cricket records & stats, even the slightest thing which distorts the validity of statistics is upsetting. b) The people who are ultimately responsible for this kind of thing happening are the very administrators who are now way up on their high horses. They have allowed money and greed to completely take over the game over the past decade, and the way the game is now run, with such a proliferation of meaningless tournaments, stuff like this was and is inevitable. Who was it who predicted exactly this kind of thing in an email to Test Match Special a couple of years ago? Oh, it was me. c) I believe that Amir comes from a poor family up in the Swat valley. With the way the Pakistan team is run, he could easily be dropped arbitrarily so that some rich boy from Aitchison Grammar School can take his place, so I can fully understand the temptation.
