a sign of a great manager would have been to deal and work with those
personalities and work to rebuild slowly.  Clough didn't have the management
skills to do that, let alone the empathy or modesty.  He style was to march
in, say he knew everything and tell everyone to shut the fuck up.  Where he
was successful he was able to dominate the players and impose his views on
them, that was never going to work at Leeds.  A more realistic situation
would have been Giles as Manager.  He would have held the dressing room,
whether he could then have then gone onto rebuild who knows.
