ESSO IN TROUBLE AT LONGFORD - Maintenance workers at Esso's Longford
gasworks have been working overtime to try & get the state's gas supply up &
running again after the explosion in September of last year. In return,
workers have been rewarded for their diligence by a failure on the part of
the company to implement an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement reached last
November. ETU workers have been on strike over this issue. ETU State
Secretary, DEAN MIGHELL.

The Longford Royal Commission was set up in mid-December to investigate the
reasons behind the explosion. Repeated calls for the Commission to broaden
its Terms of Reference to include "an examination of regulations,
legislation & the actions of the state Government, its departments &
agencies" were rejected earlier this month. Secretary of the Victorian
Trades Hall Council, LEIGH HUBBARD.

comments on the proposal.
