OK, let’s try to further define the problem and what you are describing as a fix.
1. First, are you saying “nothing happens and the program shuts down” something that you expected to happen when you exit Legacy. In other words, the program “shut down” is not a problem but its just that you don’t see a backup being created? 2. Next, please describe what you mean by rebooting fixes the problem. Are you saying that if you reboot, start Legacy, and then immediately exit, it brings up the expected backup windows, and you can then see the backup being created? If your answers are what I think they may be, you might be needing to re-install Legacy and reapply the latest update. Unless Millenia support chimes in here with a known solution. I’d rather not get into long winded discussions of what MIGHT be the problem as it would only confuse everybody including myself. I’m old and can handle only one thing at a time. “-) Brian in CA PS – Please make sure you messages to the list-server are in PLAIN TEXT only. No HTML or RichText. I have every thing checked and I have since I started using Legacy when 7.0 came out. It really is not a problem to do a back up outside Legacy. However it used to work perfectly until the last update. I am using the latest version. It's just that I am wondering why rebooting my computer provides a temporary fix. [email protected] wrote: My earlier message about making sure you have a check mark on something to backup still applies but actually there is nothing wrong with using Windows Explorer to simply make a copy of your family database file with the .fdb extension. The only things different when using the program's backup function are: 1. backups are compressed and archived with a .zip extension 2. backups can have a time/date stamp in the file name (big deal...that exists already as part of the NTFS file system on the hard drive. OK, it is handy and easier to see when its part of the filename.) 3. The program's utility allows you to include a number of program preferences and settings files as part of the backup. 4. It’s a one click solution once you have made your choices (which thankfully are sticky). 5. Users begged Millenia to include such a utility and there ain't no going back. It depends how much I use the program. I can use the backup function if I reboot the computer (which I assume releases the RAM that was tied up) and use the backup the very first time I launch Legacy. I have 1 Gig on my computer by the way. [email protected] wrote: Have you tried going to File/backup? I use that as opposed to the dialog reminder when I close Legacy. Does the same issue or problem occur using File/backup? The backup dialog box comes up and I select backup. Nothing happens and the program shuts down. Is there a memory problem? Does Legacy latch onto Ram memory, and never let it go? I can easily do a manual back up by copying my entire data file, but something seems wrong here. Legacy had me do a reinstall and this seemed to solve the problem for a day or two but it seems to be back. Any suggestions?
