I'm wondering if Darlene's problem is not indicative of a failing hard drive?
Problems opening specific files are usually "ownership" problems (a Windows
thingie...not to be concerned about it unless the computer is used by multiple
people), or file corruption (which is the failing hard drive.) Well, we can
wonder for hours here but it looks like this is not really a Legacy problem but
rather an OS or hardware problem.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd make sure that the family file is immediately
backed up to a CD/DVD.
