Up to now I have used "Walsingham Registration District" for the long
location name and "Walsingham RD" for the short one.

A while ago I did think it would be useful to add the county names, but
I realised that many RDs overlap counties so it would not always be
accurate. One example: I have people who were undoubtedly born in
Derbyshire but their births are actually registered in Burton-on-Trent.
Burton-on-Trent itself is in Staffordshire but the Registration
District spans both counties.

I decided not to complicate the issue with counties!

Jenny,

I agree that is a difficult one, to which I have no answer! Personally, I do
include the county from which the Registration District's name is located,
but for the reason you give it is not entirely satisfactory. I think that
this is one of those cases where one's individual choice comes into play.

However, I would think that this is a situation which would rarely occur,
since if, using your example, you know a place of birth to be in Derbyshire
in the Registration District of Burton on Trent, Staffordshire then wouldn't
one normally enter place of birth as being Derbyshire? I would do this, and
since the arrival of Source Writer the RD would be included in my source
(previously in my Notes). The only occasions when I would use the RD as a
place of birth would be when I have no other information, only the Birth
Index.
