In this situation you have a marriage created even if the marriage event and 
Family View show nothing.

Look at the Individual Edit Page.  At the bottom it should say "This individual 
never married and had no children."  If it is grayed out, then you recorded a 
marriage somehow.

In the Family View, the Spouse Icon under the person's name will be lit.  Go 
into that Spouse Icon and look for the marriage(s) that are there.  Highlight 
the marriage(s) and click Delete on the right side of that box.  This will 
allow you to click on "This individual never married and had no children" if 
you need to.

I've had to do this numbers of times over the years.  It's easy enough to fix.
