Whilst Family Search is based on user submitted data, with all the problems that brings, we can now also amend that data, and with the best will in the world I cannot but see how this is not going to worsen the quality of the data. What we had was a novice (in terms of FamilySearch experience) who might have blindly jumped in and wound up corrupting their prized database with data from FamilySearch that was mistakenly assumed to be relevant to them. The two-way flow of data needs to be carefully controlled. I still only work from what I can see on FamilySearch. I never upload my carefully researched data to FamilySearch. I also find it tedious having to deal with each duplicate separately because of the plethora of different extractions that the LDS have done.
