It might be helpful for support to know that this has been a problem for some. I saw a similar sequence of events when I was uninstalling version 7.5 -- I think last week. Running the program 'unwise.exe' is what finished the job for me.
The version 8 program appears to pick up some settings from version 7.5 during it's initial install, but I presume that this would not have a bearing on what happens when we mess with 7.5 after that. I afterward re-installed version 7.5, and it works okay. However, since I am now having trouble getting version 8 LFS to work properly, I'm thinking it's probably time to let v7.5 go for good.
