I can see the sense of doing that, but I usually like to keep the Index entry for 2 reasons: firstly because it shows the history of my researches and how one piece of information led to another, secondly because the Index entry doesn't necessarily "match" with the subsequent Source. To take my example of a Marriage Index entry and the Parish Register entry for the same Source, the information necessary to getting a Marriage Certificate is included in the Index entry.
