Jenny, Mark, David I quite agree with your comments, but I think that with Shared Events we are only seeing the start of their development. At least I hope so as there is much to do especially with things like exporting and GEDCOMS.
When it comes to English/Welsh BMDs, I have always had separate Events for the Indexes and the actuality. I have never considered them to be part and parcel of the same thing. I know that with UK sourcing Legacy includes the Index and BMDs on the same template, which I consider to be wrong, have always opposed and never used in that way - for example by having separate sources for an Index and certificate.
