The elephant in the room here is the GEDCOM standard which is 18 years
old (5.5) and doesn't support charing. GEDCOM 5.5.1 is used extensively
but apparently has not been "approved" and in any case it is 15 years
old. More recent efforts to change or extend the standard seem to have
foundered and I think this issue of data transferability will stultify
the efforts to move to shored events.

On the positive side RootsMagic, which has enjoyed shared events for a
while, seems perfectly capable of reading the shared events from Legacy.
Perhaps the developers could get together and put up a new "GEDCOM"
standard.

(For the record I am not a GEDCOM expert, I just read a lot!)
