Cathy gave excellent instructions for finding any text in the database using Search and Replace. I use it quite often in exactly the way she described and yes it does work. The search and replace works just about the same way a word processor might perform the same function. Here are the fields that I just tried with version 8.0.0.427 (lots of fields are available in the Find where pull-down menu).
Find where: Source-Title Find what: Utah, Utah, Replacement text: Utah, Utah, Find whole word only - unchecked Match case - checked Anywhere in field - radio button set Replace only found text with replacement text - radio button set Click "Start" Because the replacement text is the same as the find what text, I can click on "Replace" or "Skip" and nothing is changed. Or I can make the changes I want in the Replacement box. It definitely would be nice to limit a search and replace to a tagged sub-set. We can continue to wish for that. One more option is to use the Ltools Global Text Search function. That's the problem. Wait, who said there is no master? I'm not following, I guess. I never said that. There is definitely a master source. In fact, I don't even know how to add a Source Detail without a Master Source.
