I think My Heritage and Ancestry are similar in that they automatically
direct debit your account each year, without notifying first. I understand
it's all in the 'fine' print.
I had a huge disagreement with them last year after they direct debited my
account and I told them they were unscrupulous in their dealings as every
other direct debit I have set up (and I have quite a few), advise me prior
to the deduction that they will be withdrawing a certain amount on a
certain date. This gives one the opportunity to either query or ensure
there are enough funds in the bank account.
Apparently there is a way to stop the automatic direct debit however they
don't tell you this until you contact them to complain and then apparently
it's up to the 'client' to make the changes.
I found they initially failed to return my emails so I put a bad review on
My Heritage web site and they finally contacted me.
