No, not really. You are alive or you are dead, and that is pretty much it.
The question though, is what if the genealogist does not know if the person
is alive or dead for sure? I have several people born in the 1910s and 1920s
that I don't know yet if they died. They -could- be alive.
The argument is having a unknown indicator for living will allow the user to
give a label to everyone to a more degree of certainty. The user either
knows you are dead, or you are alive, or the user does not know yet. Hence,
the option of "Unknown" for living was suggested.

ummm what other options are there besides living/dead? Is there an inbetween I don't know about?

There really is no way to deal with the Living indicator field, since it must be set to either Yes or No, neither of which is correct in many cases. The suggestions that others have made are simply different ways to indicate that it is not known whether someone is living, but that does not prevent the Living indicator from being wrong.

I agree. I asked for this some years ago when I first started using Legacy 2?, 3? and was told it would be looked at, and that was the end of that. I have a number of people who I don't know if they are alive or not and still wonder how others deal with it. June Canberra, the nation's capital
