That's laughable. Slavery was dying on its own. It was economically unfeasable to keep slaves. They were expensive to keep, maintain, and secure. There were far better methods for harvesting cotton by the time the civil war started. You can try to ignore the fact that the North had been exploiting the South and bullying them for years and provoking the South's ire, but the truth is already out there.
And don't even try to say that the South started the civil war or claim they "fired the first shot" because Fort Sumter is in South Carolina. This is one of the states that seceded from the union and was now part of a different country. It was now part of the Confederate states of America. The Fort, and everything in it, belonged to the Confederate States. The South asked these people to leave in peace and get out of South Carolina but they refused to leave. These trespassers and squatters took up arms and barricaded themselves in the Fort. Firing on the fort was not an act of war. It was an act of eviction. They had no valid authority to remain in the fort. Your ludicrous claims that we'd still have slavery today don't fool anyone. We wouldn't have even had slavery in the Confederate states by the turn of the century. The South was indeed minding its own business and so was Iraq. Neither of them did anything that warranted an attack by the United States, and nobody who is a libertarian condoned either of those wars. To paraphrase John Quincy Adams, the United States was created as a neutral, non-interventionist, nation of liberty and freedom that is supposed to be a beacon of hope and for all nations and the champion of no nation but our own. It's not our job to seek out tyrants to defeat or to win freedom for others. It's only our job to defend our own nation from tyrants whether internally or those directly attacking us and to protect our own freedoms. Anything else is stupidity absolutely unlibertarian.
