In other words, you are claiming something is quantifiable, that you have no numbers for and the "experts" do not agree on. "Intangible social and cultural costs" seem to be in the eye of the beholder.
You claimed they were quantifiable, which it the opposite of intangible. Law enforcement officers deal with a very small percentage of the population, most of which are criminals. There is not a state in the US that has a prison population that even amounts to one percent of the general population. Since I worked in a work release facility for eight years and in a prison for 17 years, I think I have a fairly good working knowledge of the effects and certainly a better handle on the statistics. We had a higher percentage of Hispanic citizens in prison than were in the general population. However, of those Hispanics who were not citizens and had a immigration hold for deportation were less than three percent of the total population. Since illegal immigrants make up more than four percent of the general population, then they are less likely than Hispanic citizens, or even Anglo-Saxons to be convicted criminals. I live with a school teacher. I just asked her the very question you make in regard to social and cultural costs. She says in that regard they are a plus. All of that, of course, is not relevant to what you claimed. You said this was QUANTIFIABLE and responded with what was INTANGIBLE. Another red herring. Whatever the true overall cost-benefit figure, my personal share of it is higher than the per capita amount, due to the progressive tax system. Then there are the intangible social and cultural costs. Talk to a school teacher or law enforcement officer in an area with a large illegal immigrant population. What is the contribution versus the cost of illegal immigrants. How much do they contribute to production and revenues versus these alleged "forfeits" and "subsidies." All this stuff about "balancing" negative effects and "cost-benefit analysis". I've applied it to both the global warming and the immigration "problems" (at least in my own mind) and I find the alarmism about both to be pretty much equal amounts of socialist nonsense.
