No the base map is not upgradble.. And yes it’s the garmin gps3 I scored
some pPlugs from Pfranc.com and made my own cable.. Also what I do is
use the moving map software of street atlas and this allows me to go
where I need to when I travel for work .. Hoping to find a good linux
app mapping software

Phillip,

You still didn't say if what you got was the Garmin GPS III, but I'll
assume 
it was.

I'm still wondering what you can do with the serial connection from the 
handheld to the Libby.  Can you do more than upload maps to the
handheld?

For instance... can you get the map data that you manipulate on the
handheld 
display to be displayed on the Libretto screen?
