Ok, reverting grob-property.cc in addition to define-grobs.scm gives back
the old performance _and_ bumps the required number of pages up to the
post-2.17.14 range of 9/10 again (from 6/7). Reverting also
axis-group-interface.cc then takes the required number of pages back to the
pre-2.17.14 range of 8/9. So it would seem like axis-group-interface.cc is
not innocent here.
Of course with all the interdependencies this diagnosis contains a hefty
amount of handwaving so far.
