Well, you don't embed Xtras in a Shockwave movie, and that's probably where
the misunderstanding comes in.

Director creates platform-independent content, called Movies (and also
Casts for additional storage). When compressed and placed on a server,
these become "Shockwave".

You can't do anything with these in and of themselves. You need a playback
(runtime) engine to see and interact with the content.

What Shockwave is, is basically the playback (runtime) engine is written as
a Netscape or other browser plug-in. So, when you browse to a page with a
Shockwave movie, the browser hopefully already has the Shockwave plugin
installed, which is really the playback (runtime) engine. The browser
downloads your movie, and uses the browser's built-in runtime engine (the
Shockwave plug-in) to run it.

When you create a projector, you basically bind the runtime engine to the
movie, and it makes a big .exe file. This is your content and the runtime
engine in one nice package. You can also bind in any Xtras you need to
make the movie play properly.

On Shockwave you can't bind in the Xtras to the movie. When you create a
.DCR file, it's just the movie only. So what if you have some additional
Xtras that you need in order to properly run your content? They would have
to be identified and downloaded. They also need to be packaged up for
Shockwave delivery. Sometimes this is done by the developer, other times
it would have to be done by you. The packaging certifies that the Xtra is
really from who it's supposed to be (a security deal).

So, yes, you can have Shockwave content that relies on additional
Xtras. They will get downloaded for you, if they're packaged and set up
properly. But no, the regular projector bundling is not the same thing.
