I've always thought that this would be a logical extension of the multiple
LPAR/multiple port support in OSA.  If different device address pairs (OAT
entries) could be associated with different VLANs, it would simplify many
routing environments.

I guess when this technology (VLANs) was introduced, every vendor had their
own methods/protocols, but now that there's 802.something that defines VLAN
trunking it should be... easy?  ;-)
