Sorry if this is a dumb question, but does this response mean that nobody is using a Linux 2.4.7 kernel under Z/VM 4.2.0 and exploiting hipersockets and guest virtual lan. If so, what is the most upto date Suse distribution and kernel that can be used with the Z/VM 4.2 hipersockets facilities. Alternatively, what distribution and kernel level are people using with the above.
Thanks again, Eric Lawler. -----Original Message----- From: Rich Smrcina [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 16 April 2002 04:44 To: Lawler, Eric : Enable Subject: Re: Linux under VM + Toolsets. Eric, Guest LAN support is still pretty young, but I certainly haven't heard anything negative about it. We tried to use it at a customer installation, but it turns out that the SuSE 2.4.7 distribution did not have the proper level of the qdio driver implemented. There are two ways to monitor Linux. There are true performance monitors for VM which can not only monitor the VM system and the Linux machines from the outside, but it can also dig down into the Linux systems (using snmp) to get performance information for processes running in Linux. The other way is to watch Linux with networking tools. There a number of these around, both commercial and open source. The one that I have experience with is Big Brother. You can get information about it at http://bb4.com. If you need any more information about either of these things, please feel free to contact me.
