You can use the original SLES7 kernel, which is 2.4.7, but you need the qdio and qeth drivers from Developerworks.
Also, SuSE, in their wisdom, changed the version ID string for the kernel, so you have to insmod -f the drivers to get them to install. I haven't tried the updated kernel yet, so I don't know if they fixed this. One thing I'm hoping they HAVE fixed is a bug that causes the kernel to crash when you run Samba. > -----Original Message----- > From: Adam Thornton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 9:08 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: Linux under VM + Toolsets. > > > On Thu, Apr 18, 2002 at 01:03:36PM +0100, Eric Lawler wrote: > > Sorry if this is a dumb question, but does this response > mean that nobody > > is using a Linux 2.4.7 kernel under Z/VM 4.2.0 and > exploiting hipersockets > > and guest virtual lan. > > If so, what is the most upto date Suse distribution and > kernel that can be > > used with the Z/VM 4.2 hipersockets facilities. > > Alternatively, what distribution and kernel level are > people using with the > > above. > > SLES 7.2 works, but....you need to download the k_deflt.rpm from their > support site (so you need to have at least the 30-day-trial version), > and then on top of that you need the latest qdio drivers from > DeveloperWorks. > > Once you've done that, it works just fine.
