CMS is just another operating system that can run in a virtual machine.
It provides methods and tools for manipulating files and executing
programs. Some of those programs manipulate the CP component of VM to
manage virtual machines, but it's also useful for general programming.

All related to hardware. Think "layers": (onions have layers, computers
have layers...)

HMC: physical system allowing you to take actions related to operation
of the hardware

HCM/HCD: Configuration tools to help you decide how to configure the
hardware

VM CP/LPAR: ways to partition the resources of the hardware

virtual machine: container for an operating system (either VM or LPAR)

operating system: runs within virtual machine

Each layer has progressively smaller and more focused scope. Orthogonal
to that are system management tools like Tivoli or HP Openview, which
give "bigger picture" views.
