hi mark, i still have this on my todo list. i've since found i can't even
ipl a stand alone dump tape on our 3490s, something that i'd really like
to solve. so for now i've put the .tdf method on the back burner. i'll let
you know how it goes. thanks for your help!

If the .tdf method isn't working for you, take a look at
http://home.iae.nl/users/rvdheij/linuxipl.html for another way to not have
to use tape. The example uses names from SUSE, but it should work with
any
other distribution.
