Every time this has come up in this forum, I point people to this article, http://www.eosj.com/index.cfm?section=article&aid=229 (requires no-cost registration) or the prior version at http://www.zjournal.com/index.cfm?section=article&aid=257 that talks about Tao Linux instead of CentOS.
and the statement (at least from Novell/SUSE) that they don't require people to stop using the software at the end of the evaluation period. You lose access to maintenance, and that's it. If you read all the verbiage that Red Hat prints about RHEL, you're not paying for the software, you're paying for access to RHN and the maintenance you get from there. Alan Cox of Red Hat, when pointedly asked about this in this mailing list, said read the doc that comes on the CDs, meaning, you can keep using it, you just can't get maintenance for it. How much are you willing to pay for a DVD with CentOS for Linux/390 on it? If it's enough to be worth my time to buy a DVD burner and some media, I'll do it, just so people will stop complaining about it. If all you care about is media, not format, I'll sell you copies of Slack/390 on CDs, since I already have a CD burner. Sine Nomine (I believe) will sell you copies of Debian/390 on media. I've never managed to find a s390x version of Linux that I can download directly from the Internet, other than CentOS. Both SuSE and RH wanted nnn dollars for a "test version" of Linux which we could only use for something like 6 months. Whereupon they expected us to stop using the software or get a service contract with them. I still cannot find anywhere that I can purchase a DVD (or CD collection) which has an s390x Linux distro on it, to run under Hercules/390. I cannot afford to download CentOS at the house. My DSL is too slow and CentOS is too big. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
