Instead of user/group/other permissions which are restrictive, ACLs allow
you to set the permissions for any individual user.  For example, you may
want a few people to have write access to a file, and a few read access,
and everyone except a few have execute access.  This is easily possible
with ACLs without having to bother ss to make up groups or anything.

Not also that permissions also relate to other resources, not just files.
