For you (?), but for most of the others it isn't. Also, I didn't want to 
by some interface box off the shelf after building a TNC all by 
myself.

Yes, maybe. But as long as you are only complaining about people 
ununderstandably dealing with such "crap" as USB without giving 
some more detailed information on HOW to connect a device with 
a different interface to Ethernet, your messages are NOT very 
helpful.
