I've always used "make zlilo or make bzlilo" when compiling the kernel.
This time for some reason, the vmlinuz was not moved, yet the vmlinuz on
my other (identical machine with identical options) other machine was.
Just goes to show that one should not assume anything and that this
should have been the first item to check. I have to thank all those who
replied.
