Firstly its advise able to use the -i option with kissattach -i = ipaddress.
Secondly you have no "MKISS" support (loaded) which is causing the error

kissattach: TIOCSETD: Invalid argument

I dont know if Redhat-5.2 installs that module from its distribution, check
/lib/modules/2.0.36/net/ for "mkiss.o" if its not there then you will need
to recompile your kernel and include mkiss or define it as a module.

If you have it as a module or recompile a new kernel add the following to
your /etc/conf.modules file so kerneld will automaticly load the mkiss
module when kissattach is called.

alias tty-ldisc-5 mkiss
