I'll take the last part as a compliment - thanks Just a few of comments 1 - After about 4 years I'm not a newbie 2 - yes - I did make a very big and very stupid mistake 3 - I've always found the list to be very helpful 4 - I did know how to re-boot from the CD or rescue diskette, but asked my question in the hopes there was a better solution - mainly because I was a bit afraid to re-boot with my /boot partition gone. In any case, thanks to all those who answered. As you can see, I'm back up and running.
