i guess we have a difference of opinion there.i find yast2 to be cumbersome
compared to the sleek simplicity of the redhat way.anyway beyond a certain point
all distros are basically indeterminate in their limitations and capabilities.

if you do recall or anyone else does i would love to use it.a subtitute for ntsysv
for suse may even make me revise my opinion.

i used to edit rc.config. and files in /etc/rc.config.d.is there a better SuSE
specific way that you know but i'm not aware of?

no.and i would'nt because i guess they already know and in their wisdom have left
it out - like the chkconfig manpage.

yes i have tried yast only update (YOU) many times and it does not work.what
happens is that it downloads the details of packages to be updated and shortly
into the process of actually getting the rpms it disconnects from the server and
says to try again later or try another server.i've tried at different times and
with different servers and the same thing happens.it may work if you need only a
few files to update your system but not when you have lots of updates to apply.the
one suse system that i have has such a minimal install that i rarely need to
manually update it.e.g. it didnt have even mutt so no headaches with the recent
need to upgrade old versions of mutt.in my experience up2date has always worked
beatifully after the minimal signup process.
if you lurked on some of those suse lists you would hear of the woes people are
having with Yast Only Update (YOU).
