hello there,

  first of all check if you are really connected to
the internet. after you are sure that you are
connected to the internet go to the shell mode and
type "ifconfig". If you are really connected to the
internet then the ppp0 interface should show u a ip
address. If the ip address is not there then you are
not able to login to your isp's network. if you get a
ip address then try opening the browser and type a url
and checkout. if still it does not work it means the
/etc/resolv.conf should contain the lists of the
namerservers of your isp. normally it would get
inserted if you use some dialers like kppp or redhat
internet dialer. but if you use dialers like wvdial
then the nameservers would not get added. just get the
list of the nameservers from your isp contact number
or from the starter kit you have and add it to the
file /etc/resolv.conf
   nameserver <ip address goes here>
   nameserver <ip address goes here> 
now it would surely work
