How do you know that you are connected to the internet...does ping <domain> work...and do you get reply for that.. If ping <domain> resolves to a proper ip address..then your resolv.conf settings are proper otherwise set it right. If you do not get any reply for the ping request then some other problems but many servers just drop the ping requests and you might not get a reply. Just check out ping google or ping yahoo..they are sure to reply.
