I guess he genuinely was. Even this is a solution better and cleaner
than whatever else we can conjure up.

Moreover, there are only a few people in this list whoes replies are
fun, and educative at the same time. 

To quote a friend at college, addressed to me, "Linux people like you
guys become eccentric no sooner than you get into serious things on the
OS". I feel this is almost true with most of us, including me and others
I have known.
