it is true that if the application has a pleasant looking interface,
then the user working on it feels good and is comfortable using it.
thats the reason behind popularity of linux these days as compared to
the past thanks to gnome and kde and all the eye candy that comes with
it
however, making an application web based is not always a good idea. why
do yu think that though there are many web based applications available
for accounting, still all (most of) the accountants in India use Tally,
even if that means pirating a copy of it rather than using the open
source freely available web based application?
the difference lies in how much productive a person can be using an
application. they want to get the work done as fast as possible and
they'll never be interested in moving the mouse to click a button or
select a drop down. in non-web based applications, a good number of
keyboard shortcuts are there so they can get the job done quickly. web
based interfaces unnecessarily slow things down leading to reduced
efficiency. they'll not accept it themselves even if it looks wow
