You may be right!

But you have to think from an end user point of view! You can't tell a
not techi person learn Linux with in 7 days!!!!!!!

They may kill the system while doing some R & D !!!!!!!!! Think from the
point of view of an enterprise application. The normal way is to give a
middleware to end user not the DIRECT ACCESS. Using SSH/telnet and
working on a console may be a passion but for business application we
have to think about the presentation and ease of users.

Thanks & Regards,

I completely disagree. Using telnet or preferably ssh - anything
console based in fact - is far faster than you think.

It is definitely faster than a web based application, and also much
easier to secure.

Case in point - try to book an air ticket on expedia.com (or maybe
thomascook.co.in) sometime, and then go to your local travel agent and
see how they use Galileo or Saber (both mainframe hosted apps that
travel agents access using a console based app) to select flights, book
you a seat and print out your ticket far faster than you could do it
using a travel agent's website.

It is a bad idea to rip out an existing, functional system in production

and replace it with a cuter looking, but far slower and more processor
intensive option.

Two years? Please do yourself a very big favor, and track security
releases a bit better than you do, especially if you are going to admin
any of the softwares that you advocate, and especially if you are going
to admin them for Intel.
