I have copied an MPG and JPG file onto a DOS formatted floppy. I can
view the JPG file, but not the MPG file. I cannot copy either one back
to the hard drive because it says "Input/Output Error" I have set the
permissions mounted the drive correctly, etc. Does anybody know what
could cause this and how to fix it?

Two ideas:
1) NS comes with a "Netscape.ad" file which shows how they have their
keys defined. It is an "X resources" file. They don't want you to
just use the whole thing with some mods; read it. You can put
some stuff in you ~/.Xresources file or wherever you put such things.
I don't know the proper incantation for your case, if any.
2) Try using a better newsreader. I hated using the mouse so often.
I survived the ordeal of setting up Gnus inside Xemacs and now find
it much easier to use than NS. There are several others. See

This was a problem with early redhat 5.1, should be fixed in later 5.1
and 5.2.
Try rename /lib/modules/2.0.35-1 to /lib/modules/2.0.35 when you boot
from floppy and see if the module support works properly.
Also the following lines in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit should occur like this:
# Get ready for kerneld if module support in the kernel
echo -n "Finding module dependencies... "
if [ -e /lib/modules/preferred ]; then
depmod -a preferred
else
depmod -a
fi
echo "done"
It the early version you had 'depmod -a preferred' twice and that was wrong.
You can download fixed verions from redhat.

One could boot off their original boot disks used for instalation and mount the
filesystem like:
mount /dev/hd1 /mnt
and edit it from there using vi or whatever other resources you have.
An emergency boot disk is always helpful.

Try this in your /root/.fetchmailrc instead
poll pop.host protocol pop3 user mperry with pass xxxxx is mperry here
set daemon 450
Some things to note. I use procmail to send things around and I have the
MAIL variable set to something else besides /var/spool/mail/~user. I also
have a .forward and .procmailrc file. This is not essential, I just want
you to know what my setup is.
Note that this .fetchmailrc redirects email to the local user called
mperry which is me. The set daemon starts the daemon mode of fetchmail.
Now go into /etc/ppp/ip-up and go down to almost the end to a clean place
of the file and put in "fetchmail &". If you want to see a little output,
place "fetchmail -v &". This will make fetchmail do verbose stuff. To
kill the daemon when you disconnect, edit /etc/ppp/ip-down and put in
there somewhere "fetchmail -q". This kills fetchmail when ip comes down.
This works for me. I dont have to type fetchmail ever. I dont have to do
enter the su -c thing either since the .fetchmailrc file is at root here.
Take care.

That one looks familiar. I used to get this once in a while on new Linux
(rh) installation.
Never had the time to track it down. Though I was lucky, It went away by
itself.
At least I don't recal doing anythung special.
FYI. I encountered this with some RH42 installation and kernel 2.0.x
Would appreciate too, if somebody could shed a light on this one

Hi Folks,
I haven't seen much on this, so here goes..
I've got a digital edge free wire infrared keyboard with a built
in `joystick' that seems to operate much like those found on
laptop keyboards. It's a pressure sensitive `button'. I also have
various extra non-standard keys, marked up WWW, plus CD
controls'etc.
I want to map these extra buttons, and also have the mouse
respond to the joystick movement. Does anyone know how to do
this?...
FWIW it was purchased from PC World in the UK

Assure that the lock option in not set in /etc/ppp/options
Further it helps to turn on the debug mode. Add 'debug' and 'kdebug 4' to
your
pppd commandline. see the man pages for more detail

say, I just so happen to be a right-wing Southern (US) male and, as a
bonus, quite religious (fundamentalist Christian) like many here in
the state of Texas. in spite of this, I think Erik has made a very
worthwhile point regarding econony of keystrokes to convey information.
there's little doubt that we'd strongly disagree on political and
spiritual matters, I'm also certain he wouldn't care for my choice
of music either (southern gospel, western swing and C&W). nevertheless,
he's persuaded me that this particular style is not without merit.
by the way, I also don't care much for syntax highlighting of source

Problems happen, but therein is the advantage of Open Souce. Bob should
report that problem to Red Hat so that others can share in the solution
he found, and RH can fix the source, or whatever.

Imho the best way to print a man page or anything is to use the a2ps program.
Very nice output and saves you lots of paper. I think the format is:

installed KDE, which I like very much. I just started reading about the
GNOME project and it's association with The Enlightenment WM. I wanted
to ask if it was possible to have both GNOME/Enlightenment and KDE
installed on the same linux installation and switch between them like I
would do when I used to switch between FVWM and afterstep? Or would
this cause all sorts of problems with libraries clashing, WM's messing

Could you please tell me what to put in these files? I took a look in mine
and both are empty except for comments.
Thanks!

Hrmm.... odd... It should only take a long time, and produce a string
of error messages.

Well, normally you use the chmod command... ;) <duck>
You cannot chmod files on a fat/vfat partition. (These partitions
don't work in the same way that e2fs or other unices filesystem.)
All the best...

All the installations will happily reside next to each other on your hard
drive. =)
No need to worry about libraries crashing.
To switch between them, you may need to either edit your .xinitrc or to
edit your window manager configuration files which take care of this type
of switching.
All the best...
