In theory, the macunpack program from the macutils package will do it;
however, AFAIK this program hasn't been updated in years, so it'll only
handle some pretty old archives.

http://www.linuxhq.com/HOWTO/mini/Linux+NT-Loader.html
You have to do some config to the NT loader so it will call LILO. The HOWTO is pretty
good.

What I understood of that was
I'm looking for [something (maybe a book or user group)] about Linux
([something], shell scripts, C programming, and [system] configuration),
[something about paris] if you know of anything, please write to me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Thankyou.
Could very possibly be looking for a user group within Paris. very much
depends on what the word "formation" means, really.
In terms of books, (in English) I'd recommend Running Linux (2nd Ed.) by
Matt Welsh and Lar Kaufman, published by O'Reilly, and Essential System
Administration (2nd Ed.) by ALeen Frisch, also published by O'Reilly.

Does the BSD style license seek to prevent the a commercial venture
such as Red Hat/SuSE etc etc from making a profit from disributing
free software? Even if it did I doubt that such a restriction would be
enforceable. I conclude the lack of such a venture for BSD licenced
software is not due to some enabling mechanism in the GPL, but to
the lack of demand for such a service.
Are all the possibilities of making a profit from support services etc
available for with software which has a BSD style licence? Does
any BSD style license contain a paragraph prohibiting charging for
support services?

Your use of the word "condemns" gives you away. The basis
of your complaint about the GPL seems to be that it does not
allow proprietory works to be derived from it. AFAIAC that
is not a problem; in fact it is one of the benefits of the GPL.
Once a piece of code is free, it stays free. I also have
some difficulty with your phrase "who originated derived
works". If it is derived then it is not original. Furthermore
there is no bar to "reverse engineering" GPL works. Nothing
is stopping you from using the ideas and design principles
in a piece of GPL code and implementing your own version
of it. In this respect GPL code is like proprietory code.
For example if you took Windows NT, fixed a few of
the bugs and added a few features, Microsoft would
not be too pleased if you attempted to sell the whole
package as a derived work.

Howdy,
I have my system setup with win95 on primary amster and Linux on
primary slave. I use loadlin instead of lilo. With loadlin I can launch it from
an icon from the desktop, boot into a dos prompt and launch it, or press F5 to
start previous version of dos and have it launch Linux. It's just my opion, but
I like lodlin much better :)
Bye for now,

I have just been setting it up for Pipex with the same experience -
the message is essentially a time-out.
I got round it by adding a script to the PPP section of kppp - in the
Pipex case, which sends login: and password: as prompts, a script of
just
SEND
(sending two spaces to wake up the process)
EXPECT ogin:
SEND myuserid
EXPECT word:
SEND mypassword
did the trick. I also changed the line termination combo in the modem
settings of kppp to be just CR instead of CR/LF - not sure if that
mattered.

This is well documented in the HOWTO. Load lilo in the boot sector of
the linux root partition and do a disk dump (see HOWTO) of the boot
sector to a file which you then copy to your NTFS partition and use it
to boot linux (with the NT Boot Loader).

No, the reason for the laughter is not related to arrogance. It's just
that a preconfigured user with a preconfigured password (or no
password at all, which is about the same) would tear a large security
hole into every system.
Say, you have installed your Linux from the same CD as Joe Schmoe
(this is actually assuming the preconfigured account is different on
every CD, it could be even worse). That means, you know that there is
an account on Joe Schmoe's machine you've got both the username and
password of. All you need to do now is to find out his IP, which
shouldn't be too hard, and then you can telnet into his box. If the
root account is preconfigured in the same way as the example user
account... ROTFLMAO.

The 'other server' apparently does the stty stuff correctly. MS problem?

First, read 'man resize' for background. Secondly, try resizing the
telnet window, to see if your window manager will tell you its real
dimensions. Then run 'stty rows 24 columns 80' or whatever the size
is. 'stty -a' will show all the settings.
elm, vi, and other programs that move stuff via ncurses use these
dimensions. Looks like a problem with MS telnet to me. Sorry I don't
have a simpler fix, but the above should take care of the problem.

sense there, would it?)

Subject: Help! When LILO becomes LI? Failed to boot linux from NT loader
Date: Tue, 23 Feb 1999 01:18:24 +0800
Hello,
I am a newbie to Linux. I recently add a new HD to my PC for
installing Linux, co-exist with my Windows NT in the same machine.
As I want to keep the NT, I must make use of NT loader to
boot linux. So, I'd read Linux+NT-Loader mini howto, BOOTPART
documentation and some web pages discussing how to make my NT loader
boot/load linux.
(Installation detail see below later.)
When I select "Slackware" in NT loader, the screen goes from blue (NT
loader) to black and has "LI" on the left top screen (should be LILO?)
and then hang...
Do you have any idea on this issue? I am new to Linux world so anything
(even you feel silly) will be helpful. Thanks very much.
Victor Tsang
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
My config:
NT: version 4.0 (Traditional Chinese) with sp4 applied
Linux: Slackware 3.6
CPU: AMD K6-2
First IDE bus: 1 ATAPI CD-ROM (G: in NT)
Second IDE bus: 6.5GB Harddisk (C: and E: in NT. Both are NTFS)
SCSI disk 1: 2GB, D: in NT, NTFS. (/dev/sda)
SCSI disk 2: 9GB, H: in NT. FAT16 (/dev/sdb1) with unpartitioned space
(new disk. going to install linux in it)
Install procedure:
1. boot Slackware boot disk and root disk
2. run "cfdisk /dev/sdb" to prepare linux partition and linux swap
partition in the 2nd SCSI disk as below:
here is the partition "allocation" of /dev/sdb:
- 1st partition: 1GB, FAT16, H: in NT. cfdisk said it is primary
partition
- 2nd partion: 1.8GB, linux, ext2 fs, boot, primary partition, appear
to be
/dev/sdb3
- 3rd partition:120M, linux swap, swap fs, logical partition, appear
to be
/dev/sdb2
- unpartitioned free space
3. run slackware setup, which prepare file systems, and install some
packages... etc...
4. run liloconfig to config lilo
- install lilo in superblock
- root=/dev/sdb3
- boot=/dev/sdb3
also prepare a lilo boot floppy
5. after lilo is updated, make boot sector image:
dd if=/dev/sdb3 of=/FAT/linux.boo bs=512 count=1
6. reboot NT.
- copy H:\linux.boo to C:\linux\boot.001,
- add "C:\linux\boot.001="Slackware" " in boot.ini
- I also try bootpart.
- generate boot file using bootpart
- add "C:\linux\bootpart.001="Slackware (bootpart)" " in boot.ini
7. reboot. select "Slackware"
"LI" on screen and halt.
8. reboot. select "Slackware (bootpart)"
