Simple fix. During install, don't select autoprobe, select Specify options.
Then in the options window enter in:
aha152x=[port address],[irq],[ide of scsi card]
As an example:

aha152x=0x340,11,7

My guess would be that MS will find a way to sabotage it. It is *not*
to Microsoft's advantage, in any way, shape or form, for its "OS" to
coexist on the same machine at the same time with any other.

i successfully installed kernel 2.2.5 using slackware 3.6. everything
installed fine, the modules and all, but ppp acts weird. i've compiled
the kernel MANY times... each time i select the networking options
required for ppp, but half the time ppp installs and half the time it
doesn't (wtf?). when i run pppd (if ppp support installs) it connects
to my isp and immediately disconnects... it said that modprobe couldn't
find 'module ppp-compress-21' (the message comes right after my remote
and local ip's were verified... then the ppp link disconnects). on
2.0.35 pppd worked fine. what's going on?? if you want to see my my
configuration files for pppd, just ask.

I have a smiliar problem. When I login the num-lock is on by default and on my
laptop that turns the right half of they keyboard into a numberpad.

: XFree86 xterm does this afaik correctly.

Hello Grant, David, and Thomas,

Thanks for your suggestions. I discovered last night that indeed xterm does
send a printjob to lp. Unfortunately nothing prints. Although a file does
appear in the print queue directory, it doesn't actually print. The
command "lpq -Plp" gives "no entries". However, in fact, what
I see in my print spool directory is a file such as dfA022Aa00645 and
another tfA022Aa00645. The first, dfA022Aa00645 appears to be the text of
my print job. The second tfA022Aa00645 looks like this when I more it:

Hoid
Purbach
Jstdin
Coid
Lurbach
fdfA022Aa00645
UdfA022Aa00645
N

Now in a normal printjob, shouldn't I get two files one beginning with df
and the other with cf not tf? Looking into dfA022Aa00645, I see several
occurrences of ^L. Could that be messing up lpr?

The other issue is that I can only send one printjob this way. Second time
I try it, no print job goes into /var/spool/lpd/lp.

Could it be perhaps, xterm is assuming a different style of printing than
I'm using on my linux box?

I did indeed try this with rxvt and nxterm, but all they do is scroll the
text across the screen instead of sending it to lpr.

Thanks again for your help and ideas...

Hi All,

I am having problems with mouse control on the
first (original) X display (:0) after I have gone
to another X display by invoking startx -- :1
and I switch back to the original :0 display.
(via the virtual screens switches alt-cnt-F1...)

Mouse goes all funny (left instead of right,
menu drop downs instead of go right etc).
Of course switching back to the last invoked
X display corrects the activity, or killing the
last display has the same effect..

You may ask why I use it in this manner, well I
am demo'ing Linux to newbies who want to play
with different X front ends (kde,fvwm,etc...)
and I find it a easier way of switching rather
than having to start a new X display section
each time. Especially shows the power of XFree86
and Linux to those that are "stoned on one virus - MS".
It is amazing the number of converts it generates.

So, in summary, I suspect that the ownership
of the /dev/mouse is getting muddled, does
anyone have a fix or suggestions ?

Thanks, Grahame

Start the network configuration tool by entering "netcfg &" in a
console. Fill in the domain name and name server of your ISP. Then go
to Interfaces and click on Add. Fill in what you need for PPP. Use
modemtool to select the correct serial port for your modem. That may be
all you need to do.

What are you complaining about? :) 'free' recognizes the swap space -
so it's there. All this means is that you've got enough physical RAM to
handle what you're running.

If you truly want to see your swap space in action, open up Netscape, a
few huge .jpegs and StarOffice. You'll see your swap space move.

I personally use emacs to write all my shell scripts. Others like to use
vi. I'd suggest you use the editor of your choice. There are many nice
editors for Linux.

<just teasing!>

This sounds a bit like a school assignment. But I'll give you a hint.
The "date" command will give you the date and time in various formats.
You need to capture this information and test it in an "if" command.
I'll even give you the "Happy Birthday" one as an example. My birthday is
12/18/19?? (I ain't tellin'!, but I'm old.)

today=$(date +%m+%d)
if [ $today -eq 1218 ] ; then
   echo "Happy Birthday!"

The 1218 is for December (12) Eighteenth (18)

I usually set the hard drive LBA if the hard drive can do it with the

If you set the hard drive LBA in the bios, and re-install, it might fix
