yes - nxterm doesn't implement it at all, and rxvt only partly.

cd to the source tree, e.g. 'cd /usr/src/linux-2.2.5', then assuming you have bzip2
installed (*),
do a 'bzcat /path/to/2.2.5-patch-ac7.bz2 | patch -p1'. Then compile as usual.

In your Xterm you can use C-Kermit as your Telnet client.
Use the SET PRINTER command to specify the printer device to use
and SET TERMINAL PRINT ON to enable recognition of ANSI X3.64
transparent print escape sequences.

Could someone explain why it can't resolve the FQDN to the IP, but yet it
can resolve the IP to the FQDN? Is there some bug in BIND that prevents a
hostname with a certain number of -'s to be resolved?

When Unix was first developed, all interaction between a user and the
system was done through an ASCII terminal (like an ASR33 TTY or
a VT100 terminal).
Since *most* programs were started through commands entered at a
terminal, it made sense to relate the executing programs to a terminal.
Normally, the terminal that started the program could (by judicious use
of control control character) signal or terminate the executing program.
A program that was tied to a terminal in this manner was deemed to be
running with a "controlling terminal".
Now, *some* programs are started not through terminal interaction with a
user, but through interaction with other programs. These programs are
sometimes meant to run without any interaction with a terminal,
expecially a terminal that can cause the program to terminate. These
processes are executed such that they run without a controlling
terminal.
How does a process get such a status, you ask?
Well, since all processes inherit their controlling terminal from their
parent process, a process won't get a controlling terminal if it's
parent process didn't have one. Init doesn't have a controlling
terminal, so any process spawned by init doesn't get a controlling
terminal either (unless it *wants* one).
For a process parented by a process that has a controlling terminal, the
real task is to get rid of the controlling terminal. To do this, the
process executes a number of system calls that (ultimately) divest the
process of it's controlling terminal.

I sort of have an answer.
If yuo blow an parition, yet know its exact size or the cylinders it was
using, yes you can recreate them as long as you don't reformat them also.
The partitioning seems to just define the places where a parition starts
and stops. So if you recreate it exactly, yeah, I have done it.
I recommend re-partitiong it in Linux, renaming the linux partition to the
type it should be, and then saving it.
You have to be real careful though. If you don't start or stop on the
exact
cylinder, it may cause problems.

Hello,
I want to run Java on my Slackware 3.5 (Linux version 2.0.34)system, so
I started to upgrade to glibc-2.06.
Everything compiled, but I got the message
can't load library libz.so.1.
when the make tried to make the manual.
I thought I might fix the problem by upgrading my texinfo, but on 'make
install' of that package I go the same error.
In fact the GNU info program gives me the same message!
I've reinstalled all the developer utilities from my Slackware
installation cdrom, but I still can't find this library.
Anybody know where it lives?

I have to set up a back end database for a web site. I want to use linux to
run the server and I need to select a database for it.
I had been planning on using Oracle but we have just been quoted $30000
(Aus) per CPU (We were thinking 2 cpus) and that seems maybe a bit
expensive.
Does anyone have any experience with other databases under linux (redhat)?
We want this site to be very stable.
The database size will probably be around 10+Gb but the structure itself
will be relatively simple.
Any ideas?
What about postgresql? Is it stable enough and does it support large
databases?
Any help/directions would be appreciated.

HI,
My system is redhat 5.2. Everytime i launch xfig, i got the error
message like "app-defaults file is older than this version of xfig. You
should install the new version or you may lose some features." How do
I get this app-defaults??? I searched my system and found several
app-defaults --
./usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults
./usr/local/lib/X11/app-defaults
./usr/local/Acrobat3/Reader/intellinux/app-defaults
./opt/kde/share/apps/kdisplay/app-defaults
all of those app-defaults are actually directory, not files. The xfig
i am using came with the original redhat package.
Can someone tell me how to solve this problem!!! Thanks in advance!

I got all that to work right now.
But another question and then I will have it all figured out.
man mkisofs lists the following options....
-A application_id "Specifies a text string that will be written into the
volume header"
-p preparer_id "specifies a text string that will be written into the
volume header"
-V volid "Specifies the volume ID to be written into the master block."
Also these options in a .mkisofs file
APPI
COPY
ABST
BIBL
PREP
PUBL
SYSI
VOLI
VOLS
All of which contain information to be burned into the header or master
block.
My question is, how do I find out that information on an existing CD?
Only thing of this I have ever seen the the disk label in win95 which I
am thinking is the vol_id but I am not sure. What is the "volume
header" and what is the "master block"?
