I can successfully mount and view files on a data CD using the command

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

However when I issue this same command with a Audio CD inserted I get an
error message
saying :

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom
            or too many mounted file systems

Where am I going wrong here?

Is there a generic-modul that supports all scanners (respectively

Thank you for answers

Date: Tue, 13 Apr 1999 15:43:05 GMT

Hi all,

I've been using Linux (RedHat) for some months now. So far so good. What I
would like to do next is to develop some nice X-Windows applications. Now
this is the downside of Linux - too much choice!!!!!

Can anyone recommend any good GUI development environments for someone with
beginner-to-intermediate programming experience (I have used Visual Basic,
MUMPS, SQL, Pascal and C).

I get the impression that 'serious' work is done under C - would it be
worthwhile re-learning this or trying something more simple ? Are there any
good starting points or resources I could reference ?

thanks once again Linux Community...

Still nothing. Can someone tell me what's wrong? I have just upgraded

the -g option.

MMmhhhh. It seems like your program has trashed the memory managed by
malloc (the heap). Try to use a memory checker to verify this

Hi,

I've just compiled xawtv 2.40 and the bttv drivers that come along
with it and noticed that I do not get any stereo anymore. Xawtv 2.35
ran and runs fine (also with the new drivers). I have kernel 2.0.35
and a Hauppauge WinTV card (BT878, stereo, radio).

Does anyone know about specific changes and/or problems with the new
xawtv version?

Thanks,

Don't worry, be happy. If it says it found the swap space but isn't

need any swap unless you're doing some pretty serious memory-intensive

Hi all,
I use RH-5.2. Yesterday, I tried compile my Kernel 2.0.36.
I done:
$ make menuconfig
$ make dep
$ make clean
$ make modules
$ make modules_install
And I look for zImage in the dir '/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot'.
I use LOADLIN for booting from Win95's partition.
I copied new 'zImage' to this partition and boot ...

... not an Image file
Please enter name of kernel image file followed by optional command line
parameters for Linux...

I don't understand why ?
I try copy this image (zImage) to diskette by using :
$ cat zImage > /dev/fd0
or
$ dd if=zImage of=/dev/fd0

And I can boot from this diskette !!!

Anyone can explain me why ? With the same 'zImage' but I can't boot from
hard disk !!!

My Loadlin can boot with the old image (2.0.36 RH-5.2 updated).

Please help me !!!
Thank you very for your help.

PS: If possible, I hope receive your ideas at my address e-mail.

This may sound odd, but it should help to locate the cause of the
problem. What is the X Server PID before and after the crash? If the
Process ID is different, it means that the X server crashed. If the X
server PID is the same, it means that the last process using the X
server (probably the window manager) terminated so the X server
correctly finished the session.

You might also try /usr/X11R6/lib/xdm/xdm-errors or /var/dt/Xerrors or
whatever place the X output is going, to see if there is a clue there.

Cheers, JeremyC.

Use C and GTK, check out www.gtk.org, ( GTK also supports C++, Perl, Python )
Or you could just learn TCL/TK

Note: I do not use RH - I'm responding from a generic Linux point of view.

What do you mean by "create virtual CDs"? Do you mean "mount CD image
files as files as filesystems"? Yes this is possible. Create the CD
image file as though you were going to burn in onto a CD then mount it
using the usual mount command as though the file was a device but with
the "loop" option.

mount -t iso9660 -o loop /cdrom image-file

I'd love to see M$ release a product called Linux. Ten million people
sending a dollar each could pay for a pretty high-powered legal team to
take on _that_ trademark infringement suit.

I don't think [m]any Linux users would use M$ products for Linux even if
(1) they ran on all OSS kernels and (2) they were free.

Personally, I think M$ should release the source for Windows 95 as a
competitive exercise, on the basis that a lot of the Linux developers
would be eliminated at a stroke (because they would die laughing...)

Hi, I use debian 2.1 with 2.2.4 kernel, gcc 2.7. I have problems with some
programs that I try to run, they give these type of errors: cant find *.so*
no such file or some such related message. I know I have the *.so* file on
my machine. Now I read in these groups that this can be resolved by either
putting in the library path where the *.so* file resides in the ld.so.conf
file and run ldconfig. or using the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH and
adding the path of the *.so* file to it.

Well I have tried both approaches and I still get the same error messages.
Can some one please help me.

Thank you,

myjc
