Jack,
I've also been working through the Que (Using Linux Special Edition).
It does help you out a great deal but the authors sometimes take into
consideration that you already know something about Linux (or Unix). So its
good if you have some experience, but for a newbie, I wouldn't recommend it.

There are also a few (one or two) vendors who are still selling the Ensoniq
1370 (AudioPCI) soundcards. I just ordered one yesterday from Axion (I
think that's right). Go to Pricewatch and type in '1370' in the search
field. I think I paid about $23 plus shipping for the card.

Hello all, I've managed to install RH6.0 last night with all the
knoweldge I got from reading HOWTO's and lurking in this NG, so I now
reserve the right to ask quesitons. ;)
Anywho, the default Window Manager is Gnome, but I like KDE better. But
Gnome has KDE menus in it, but KDE doesn't have Gnome's! Is there an
(easy?) way of fixing this?
Also, if anyone has had success with the SB Awe32 sound card let me
know. I think it installs correctly, cause when I run sndconfig it says
device is already in use. But it doesn't play any sounds!
Finally, an intersting problem.... I can mount the CD-ROM, but the drive
bay door won't open! So I can't change CD's. Anyone else have this
problem?
Thank you all very much

The fundamental problem is that most people don't really use more than the
superficial features of a file manager (something like M$ Explorer
addresses most of the needs). That also accounts for the fact that most of
the implementations are clones of one or another commercial product (people
get a mindset about how it ought to look and run). So unless you come up
with something which is both radically new and clearly more effective, you'll
just get lost in the noise.
(But it's worthwhile doing this anyway ;-)

I havent tried, but I as stated somewhere on the blackdown ports www-pages,
jdk117-1a won't work with glibc 2.1 which is installed with RH 6.0. Try
getting jdk117-3a.
I don't know if there is a RPM but installing the JDK without RPM is as
simple as untarring it into /usr/local (or wherever you want) and
adjust your PATH and CLASSPATH according to the documentation.
Be sure NOT to install kaffe that comes with RedHat or uninstall it
if it is installed.
The JDK Linux port can always be found at http://www.blackdown.org

Apparently the problem disappered deleting all the file in the

Can anybody tell me something in this respect?

You can create a new partition, change it's type to swap, then put a
swap filesystem
on it ( mkswap ). Edit /etc/fstab to include the new partition.
Once that's done type swapon -a to add it. Most boot-up scripts do this
anyway. There used to be a limit on the total swap size ( 128 Mb ? ),
but
I think that's changed in kernel 2.2.

[F'up set - this is not Linux-specific]
Michael Samson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
>If I statically link in libc5 or libc6, do I have to provide source code?
That depends on the licensing conditions of the library. libc5 is mostly
LGPL, but a few parts of it are GPL; it may be contagious. libc6 contains no
GPLed parts; most of it is licensed under the LGPL; parts are under
different (non-contagious) licenses.
Unlike the GPL, the LGPL does not "infect" code that merely links to it code
licensed under it, so there is no obligation to release source code for your
program itself (the LGPL does require making source code available for the
library IIRC).
>Our company cannot provide our source code do to our competitors.
There are plenty of companies that prove this can be done. In most cases
it's more honest to say "we cannot provide our source code with our current
business model based on propietary software".
>What are the laws of the GPL?
The LGPL and GPL are licenses; the applicable law is copyright law.
gnu.misc.discuss is the most appropriate forum for discussion of the GPL,
LGPL and their implications.

That'll tell you if it's using any libraries you don't have (which seems the
most likely problem).
If that doesn't help, the best way to solve it is to compile it yourself.

You could either replace your binary computer with a decimal one or
use an arbitrary precision library such as gmp.
