Yo Rod
Had the same prob when i upgraded tot he 2.2.X kernels. check your
/etc/printcap file (manually) and make sure that the lp entry points
to /dev/lp0 instead of /dev/lp1( lp1 was used by the older kernels).
I had thaht same prob and i had to amend my /etc/printcap file in ther
manner i just suggested
good luck

There is. It's called lm_sensors or so (see the recent issue of lwn.net,
there are app announcements). Don't know if there's a graphical
frontend, but it shouldn't be too difficult to write on in TCL/tk or

Yepp, 2.2.x. supports up to 2Gig per swap partition (or 4; or even
more?)

Cause we don't have 345 billion dollars to throw at some false benchmarks,
or bribe Mindcraft or any of the major magazine companies to sway our way.
If you want the truth, test both os's yourself in your own environment.
Do you always let Microsoft(and all followers including magazines, OEM's and

I changed my ppp0 configuration with netcfg so that
it is activated at boot (what's wrong with that anyway?)
Now I cannot get to the X-window.
At boot it starts everything but then it gets to:
Setting modem port parameters:
/dev/ttyS1: device or resource busy
/dev/ttyS1: device or resource busy
/dev/ttyS1: device or resource busy
and hangs........
What should I do now? I'm not the one who installed this
Linux into the machine (Toshiba laptop 415CS). As far as
I can tell the only place where I can interrupt the startup
is when it gives the LILO boot: prompt.
But what should I do there and what should I change?
I love Linux. Really. Please help resuscitate this baby!!
Thanks!

I have a little problem with compiling a c++ programm in Slakware 4.0.
First there was a problem with the 'include file' <String.h> (Ansistring).
We (Computer and I) could not find it. So I unpacked a g++ packedge (from
metalab: /devel/lang/c++/libg++2.7.0a-ELF-and-a.out.tar.gz), so that all
files should have benn coppied to the location they belong to. But I still
get an error messege with the '-lg++' option. So I loked for some libaries
and found that two that game with the above packedge. With I made that
symbolik link a lot o linker messeges were displayed on my screen.
Can anybody help me around this problem?
Thanks in advanced

Hello,
I've just installed SuSE 6.1 which I'm trying to configure as a firewall
box. I did a minimal installation from CD. After I've compiled the
kernel including all the firewall and masquerading stuff, and made and
installed the modules I get the following errors when I run depmod -a...
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.2.6/ipv4/ip_masq_autofw.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in

What's up? Does this mean I've not installed some libraries required by
these modules?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Creative Ensoniq with 1371 chipsets are very close in quality in to
the orignial Ensoniq 1370 in terms of Linux performance. And they
are both well supported in RedHat 6.0. Did I mention that they can
be had for around $15 plus shipping. ;)
Check http://www.pricewatch.com/

As for getting benchmarks done, the results to the latest Mindcraft

I've got a RedHat 5.2 install but I can't get ppp working _still_. I'm

seconds.
Any ideas where to look?

That's not entirely true. Future versions of AIX will include apache as an
installation option.
Also, AIX definitely includes sendmail. Like Solaris, it's sendmail is broken
as delievered (b.a.d.).
AIX is SVR3.2 (for a long time) and 64bit as of v4.3. It is one of the more
eccentric UNIX's when you dive into the way commands are executed. A VM'er will
feel right at home.
However, anyone w/ any Linux experience should be able to pick up AIX fairly
quickly. There are actually some fairly informative books on AIX available at
the local bookstore. You might want to pick one up.
Hope this helps.
