hello;
I have install RedHat 6.0 and working alright. And in order to make it a
router,
I plug in one more network card (ne2000) and re-compile the kernel with
some
router options. After all, it can boot up but the second network card
seen not working
at all.
During boot up,found some messages below:
Sep 12 20:46:32 ryo ifup: Delaying eth1 initialization.
Sep 12 20:46:32 ryo network: Bringing up interface eth1 failed
And after configurate the network card, some message on
/var/log/netconf.log:
netconf --update: Sun Sep 12 18:46:32 1999 Activating changes
Checking base configuration
Checking kernel's modules
Mounting local volumes
Checking files permissions
Checking LILO
Executing some Sysv init scripts
Executing: /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S10network reload

The network card is config as below:
irq = 3
i/o address 0x300

Ben I finally resolved it with help from
another forum in deja. Install bttv with
params card=6 pll=1. It works fine for
me (both video and audio).

See the following two HOWTO's:
- Net-3 (or whatever is the current version) for general Linux
networking,
- DNS for DNS setup.
> In the scenario of my
> school network, is it really crucial to maintain a DNS?
Probably yes. As a reasonable minimum, your DNS should do caching of
the ISP's DNS and be the authoritative DNS for your school's internal
network.
> The local ISP also runs its own
> DNS, should I use the ISP's DNS instead?
Will the ISP give static IP addresses to each of your school's
computers? If so, their DNS may be OK to use, just very inefficient
and awkward to administer:
- each local reference (say, from the lab PC to the lab server),
would be resolved by the ISP's DNS,
- instead of doing all the administration of network addresses /
names locally, you'll have to ask the ISP to do everything for
you.
BTW, if you cross post like this again, someone's gonna kill you
for it.

I have this printer working under Red Hat 5.2. I had to install
rhs-printfilters ( available on various red hat sites) and I also
upgraded ghostscript to 5.50. For the filter I chose Canon BJC-600 and
BJC-4000 under ghostscript. Under WordPerfect I have it working under a
few different filters. Make sure if your kernel is 2.0.* your printer is
on /dev/lp1 and if your kernel is 2.2.* it is /dev/lp0.
It took me a while to figure this out. I think it was a problem with the
5.2 distribution and the printer filters that came with it.
Good Luck

There are 4 other files that need to be upgraded when moving from a 2.0
kernel to a 2.2 kernel. One of them is pppd. There is a HOWTO about
this on, IIRC, any local kernel.org. It will take you through it step
by step.

Would that I had that experience. I have an SB 16, and ran sndconfig.
It autodetected the card, updated the files, tried to play a sound to
test its work, and failed, reporting "device busy"...and then offered
to let me configure the board myself. The board is Plug and Pray, so
I can't force it to a particular setting. The sndconfig is whatever
version is distributed with Red Hat 6.0.

Date: 12 Sep 1999 10:16:33 -0400
I want to have server threads issue asynchronous I/O requests and then
be able to get a signal when the requests finish. I was warned that
this might not scale well in Linux because libaio generates a kernel
thread for each I/O request/channel. My colleague said that NT does not
have this problem. 1) Is it true that each call will require a kernel
thread? 2) Is it a problem (ie, can I just allow some huge number of
processes and hope that Linux processes are light weight enough)?
While I've got your attention... I have not been able to find any Linux
drivers for my SoundBlaster Live card. Anyone have a pointer?
Please reply by email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if possible as I'll
probably see mail sooner.

To see if this is the problem you are facing, try:
chkfontpath --list
You should get output that looks like the following:
Current directories in font path:
1: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled
2: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled
3: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled
4: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc
5: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1
6: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo
You should then add the 75dpi scaled font to your path list using the command:
chkfontpath --add /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi
This should fix the problem you are seeing.

Common problem that I have experienced. RH uses NFS version 2 while
AIX uses version 3.
Try: "mount -o vers=2 Host:/directory /localdirectory"
This should work.

I have wordperfect 8 installed on my SuSe Linux 6.2 system. For some
reason, it won't print. I get a (wordperfect) dialog saying that the
document has been que'ed for printing, but nothing ever happens; the
print job doesn't even show up on the KDE print manager. Star Office
5.1 documents, KDE editor documents, and everything else print just
fine. All I can get is, when I "hit" the initialize printer button on
the wp print dialog, my printer will print a page with about 8
(apparently random) characters at the top of the page. What's up?
(Additional details - printer is Canon BJ200, for which there is no
printer file in wp for linux, so I've tried using some common or generic
printer files, dos printer, ibmproprinter, ibm deskjet, etc. Also,
printer is set to device lp0.)

My server has been compromised from the same server, same account as
you. ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Well, I gotta reinstall system anyway
and I'm sending a message to the adminisrator of unm.edu domain.
The cracker seems to intrude my Linux box (Redhat 6.0 with Korean
language extenstions) with whatever means, and changed major
daemon and fileutils (including ls and find) from lrk4 package.
I've found that the cracker created a hidden directory /dev/sda69.
installed sniffer there and tried to steal the password info. --;
Once compromised, it's very hard to detect since almost every
tools for system monitoring (ls, find, syslogd, ps, top and so on)
are changed. I detected the compromise from the strange behavior
of ls command that ls with --show-control-chars option yields
'unrecognized option' error.
Tha problem is that I don't know what security hole the cracker exploited.
The most suspected security hole is proftpd-1.2.0 included
with RedHat 6.0 original distribution, but I recently upgraded it
to proftpd-1.2.0pre3 from redhat updates ftp. Can somebody
reply to me about any other major security bugs related to redhat 6.0
that can be exloited?
Thanks.
