here, use my /etc/XF86Config file.
for RedHat its /etc/X11R6/XF86Config
its set to 1024x768.
if it works use it.
if you want to use that trident card to get a resolution of
1280x1024 you will have to run that old 16color vga.
and you dont want that.
1024x768 uses 8bit color which gives you 256 colors at 2MB Video Ram
which you have.
so go and edit that XF86Config file.
change your mouse settings only.
leave the rest alone.
