Binary packages of both sgml-tools 1 and 2 are available for Debian (at
least in "unstable"; I haven't checked the 2.1 tree).
>What's Docbook?
DocBook (http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/) is an SGML DTD for technical
publishing that's much more extensive than Linuxdoc; it's used e.g. in the
production of O'Reilly books. DSSSL stylesheets for use with Jade are
available that can be used to produce HTML, XML, DVI, PS, PDF, RTF and MIF
from DocBook documents.
>How does it relate to Linuxdoc?
The LDP will be moving away from Linuxdoc to DocBook; there's a migration
script/binary "l2db" in sgml-tools 2.
>How can I tell sgml-tools utilities to use Linuxdoc instead of the new and
>mysterious Docbook format?
Use sgmltools 1's "sgml2latex" and friends, or convert your Linuxdoc
documents to DocBook with sgmltool 2's "l2db".

Please note that this is a HARDWARE RAID controller and not software. The
use of md subsystems is for software. As far as the OS is concerned, it
is talking to a single scsi device, the controller handles digesting
parity and all that.

How could I restore /lib/libc.so.6 ?
My application needs glibc-2 but I would prefer not

I just use the new glibc with changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH ?

What likely happened is that you likely logged in as another user while in X
Windows so that user doesn't have permission to open a window on the screen.
The simple but somewhat unsecure solution is to try
typing 'xhost +' to give all users permission.
Michael Delas- <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message

For some strange reason, I quite frequently get the following error message
whenever I try to open emacs, or any application that involves opening a new
window for that matter:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authrized to connect to Server
emacs: Cannot connect to X server :0.0
Check the DISPLAY environment variable or using `-d'.
Also use the `xhost' program to verify that it is set to permit
connections from your machine.
I checked the DISPLAY environment variable and it is set to ":0.0". When
I try to use xhost I get more or less the same message:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server

*grin*. Oh, well...
I get my information directly from ISPs, from PPP login traces,
from other developers and from IETF workgroups (PPPEXT among them),
and I can assure you that I would not have gone to the trouble of
implementing and field-testing MS-CHAP if it had not been necessary.
But of course if you feel the random argumentative rambling on

These vague references are very frustrating. The different Debian
mirrors are laid out different ways. Please give a complete URL.
The package search at www.debian.org shows only sgml-tools 1.0.9-1.
The abandoned Web site www.sgmltools.org says that's obsolete,
but sgml-tools 2.0.2 does not build and has not been packaged.

What's a DSSSL stylesheet? Has the LDP ever used them? Do I have to figure
out what they are and how to install them to revise a Linux mini-HOWTO?
What's Jade? (Besides another software package named with a common dictionary
word to defeat the search engines, that is.)
Debian uses a LaTeX distribution called TeTeX.
Sgmltools-2.0.2 comes with a thing called "jade" that takes a hell of a
long time to build. I'm afraid to run the make install, it might clobber
TeTeX, and I'll have another Slackware-like halfway screwed up
gigantic unusable LaTeX mess again. Yecch.

Hi all, I need some advice on how to serve a web page from my home. I
don't expect much traffic so i'm assuming I can host a page through my
cable modem and the extra computer I have here. It's a pentium 100,
with 1gig hd, decent (read: cheap :) ) nic, has it's own ip, and will
have 32 or 48 megs of ram. Would that be enough for two low traffic
pages, one being an all text version of my page as well as a neeto
super-duper graphical page that will be using flash and other
interactive menus and such?
I'm also wondering which os I should run. I need it to be
really stable cause it'll be running only the webpage and I need to be
able to keep it on for long periods of time(only one monitor and I
have Beos and Win9x for my main oses on a seperate computer so I'm not
looking for an all around os). Also, does the os I use have bearing on
what others use to connect to my site? This I'm a bit confused on.
I'm very interested in having the server set up to handle connections
from different oses. I don't mind getting into the mud when it comes
to setting up os's. Just to let you know, last year I got linux up and
running with Be and Win9x on the same computer and drive, yay me! :)
What would be the most stable setup for me? One friend said
Linux with Apache or BSD with whatever he said, can't remember, what
do y'all think? (i'm not trolling, yes i've been reading that bsd,
linux, tcp/ip stack thread and I want you all to know that i'm not
trolling. I really don't care what os I run, I just want to know what
would be best for my situation)
Thanks,

P.S. will I need to setup a firewall? This is something I know little
about but I have this itchy feeling that it's necessary. Thanks

Maybe it is included under /usr/local/lib/qt or /usr/lib/qt
it could also be a link like /usr/local/lib/qt -> /usr/local/lib/qt1.42
If it is present, you can use=20

This number refers to kernel version. I think it belongs to ver.3.4 of
Slak.
Check if you have a file rpm2tgz. If not, try to download it from net.
Ver 3.5 had it and it works like a charm.
You do (as root) rpm2tgz <filename>.rpm and get <filename>.tgz.
Then pkgtool and instruct it to install from current directory.
That's all.
Enjoy.
Stanislaw.

For some strange reason, I quite frequently get the following error
message whenever I try to open emacs, or any application that involves
opening a new window for that matter:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authrized to connect to Server
emacs: Cannot connect to X server :0.0
Check the DISPLAY environment variable or using `-d'.
Also use the `xhost' program to verify that it is set to permit
connections from your machine.
I checked the DISPLAY environment variable and it is set to ":0.0".
When I try to use xhost I get more or less the same message:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
xhost: unable to open display ":0.0"
Why is this happening. I'm running Red Hat version 5.2, and this
usually occurs after I've already opened a few windows ( such as other
emacs windows, or netscape, or xplaycd etc. ). Please send me any
information that you can.
Ciao
