I personally chose (2), using a domain .ltd (limited) which is
fictitiuos. Perhaps something which is likely to always be fictitious
would have been a better idea (like twne, this-will-never-exist) or even
add some random numbers. It certainly works.
Suddenly it comes to me that you could probably use localhost
(machine1.localhost and machine2.localhost for example). I know this is
a default somewhere.
However, I don't think sendmail actually needs a domain name and can
somehow be set up to not require one. No idea how, though.

I'm sure it's something simple I'm failing to do but what.
BTW, /usr/include/g++-2/iostream.h does exist.

That is a new thing with RH6.0 and not available on RH5.2
RH6.0 has procps version 2.0.2 according to 'ps -V', so
that is the number that should be compared on non RH systems.
Unless, this is an RH enhancement, but I would doubt that.

You don't need to do anything special. Linux can read FAT32 partition very
well.
But if you have LILO installed on your MBR then after installing Win'98
you'll have to reinstall LILO.

I finally got it working yesterday evening. What happened was that the "full
install" of Mandrake installed sendmail and postfix. Removing sendmail and an init 3
solved the problem (for new incoming mail anyway). Existing mail queues were edited
to change localhost.localhost to localhost and postfix restarted and sent out
everythign that was hung up...

I tend to use .lan (local area network) which is also fictitious. Personally,
I believe it would make a lot of sense if .lan was officially reserved for
local private networks.

Why not simply use 'auto' as the file system type? That way you'll need
only a single mount point, and the kernel will figure out what type it
is.

This is just a guess, I've had a hang a couple of times that was so severe
that I had to pull the plug on the machine.
I get to the same point you are describing, (mount), it does appear that the
system is frozen at this point, and if it wasn't for the fact that I was
able to hear the disk drive accessing the disk, I would have concluded the
system was frozen. It wasn't.
It did take what in computer time seemed abnormally long to mount the root
file system, actually it was under five minutes.
Have you tried booting Linux and when it comes to the point that it is
mounting file systems, just going to get some coffee or something?
Sometimes the simplest approaches have all the answers....

Netscape has , what i think, is a stupid way for managing messages.
Even if u delete all files from Sent and Inbox to the Trash and also
even deelete all messages from Trash the messages are still 'in there'.
THey don't show up in Netscape but if you browse the actual Sent, Inbox,
and Trash files u will see they have every single bit of text from each
message you sent and received including headers and 'garbage' from any
files you sent. I've never compacted folders so i dont know what that
does per se but what I did was use a text editor and delete some of the
text in the actual sent, inbox and trash files. When i finally figured
htis is out netscape worked my trash file was like 250mb in
size....needless to say Word crashed.

yeah, drives that size are pretty common these days, those messages need
updating.

It may still be a problem, I don't know.
To be safe, locate you're root partition with a STARTING cylinder number
< 1024, if you can.
Of course, if you get rid of the windows partition, no problem. ;-)
Also, LILO is probably the most convenient way to boot Linux,
but not the ONLY way.
If you're dual-booting with ms-win/dos/nt, you can use LOADLIN.EXE to
boot linux from the other os. It runs the same once booted.

XFree86 says:

Matrox G400 (only the first head and no TVout support).

so, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hello out there
I have a few questions and it would be great if someone could help me
1. I have an parallel port scanner. Is there any chance to scan under=20
Linux? I also have an digital camera (Casio) that transferes the data=20
over serial cable. For both periferical I have the twain-driver(=20
altought I think they wount help me a lot!).
2. When I lock my screen in KDE, it asks me for my password. Thats=20
fine, but if someonen doesnt know my password, he can just jump (Ex.:=20
ALT + CTRL + F1) to the terminal I started the X-server press CTRL +=20
C. From there on he will have complete access to my files. (I tried it=20
on SuSE 6.1 with KDE).
Is there a way to change this?
3. How can I configure my Linuxbox to act as an NTP-server for my=20
local network, using it's internal clock (which is adjusted from time=20
to time to the internet NTP-servers).
Thanks in advanced

That quote is from the current docs, so I'd download
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5.*.rpm from ftp://ftp.redhat.com/updates/6.0/i386.
The version on your CD is probably 3.3.2 and might not support your card
properly.

Subject: Linux autoprobe doesn't detect my SCSI card...

Hi
I've got a SCSI card which Windows recognises as an Adaptec
AHA-150x/1510/152x/AIC-6x60 SCSI Host Adapter. When I installed Linux, I=
tried
to get it to dect the card by selecting the Adaptec 152x adapter from the=
list.
When the autoprobe didn't work for that, I tried all of the other Adapte=
c
cards on the list, but none could be autoprobed.
Any ideas on how I can fix this up? Thanks.... :)

What are you going to do with it? Mail, web, router, DNS, firewall,
directory server, even desktops it works wonderfully.
I got rid of a Cisco and dropped a 486 with Linux and four NICs as the
router for three subnets, it got those WIN machines off on their own
subnet and they can chat all they want and they don't interfere with the
rest of the machines.

Hi...
I have a local ISP here in southern Ohio that offers me national access
to your account through PSI.NET for $17 pm or so... which includes single
channel ISDN if you need it. Their www page offers a coverage list so
you can check for your area.
If you decide to use this, Please tell them I sent you.. :)

It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because
there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not
every one of them is inabited. Therfore, there must be a finite number of
inhabited worlds. Any finite number devided by infinity is as near to
nothing as makes no odds, so the averave population of all the planets in
the Universe ca be said to be zero. From this it follows that the
population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may
meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged immagination.

try adding -I/usr/include -I/usr/X11/include and so on..
(ie: add a -I<where.you.put.your.header.files>)
